Repositioning a Website for an Electronics Manufacturer Around Prototype-to-Production Clarity

How the Made in Britain project reframed Cope Technology: turning a busy electronics manufacturing homepage into a focused strategic concept that makes the offer, production process, quality controls and next step easier for buyers to understand.

The Initiative

This is part of a self-directed project: rebuilding one Made in Britain business in every category, both to show how I work and to give something back to British firms after more than a decade living here.

In the Electronics category, Cope Technology stood out because the business already had a broad, credible manufacturing offer: PCB assembly, prototyping, testing, final assembly and materials management, backed by more than 40 years of experience and an employee-owned team. The opportunity was to make that strength easier to grasp from the first screen.

The rebuild remains a strategic concept rather than commissioned client work. It uses verified public information and Cope's own business evidence, while leaving publication permission, production deployment and performance measurement for client approval.

The opportunity was not to invent a new capability, but to organise Cope's existing one around the way an electronics project actually moves forward.

The Core Problem

1

No Clear Primary Page Topic

The live homepage is titled simply ‘Home’ and contains no H1. Repeated carousel headings compete to explain the business instead of establishing one clear electronics manufacturing proposition.

2

Missing Search and Sharing Foundations

The current homepage has no meta description, canonical link or JSON-LD, leaving important page meaning and business context implicit rather than machine-readable.

3

Services Without a Joined-Up Buyer Journey

Six services are presented, but the homepage does not connect them into the practical route a buyer follows from understanding and prototyping through verification and production.

4

Proof Sits Away From the Claims

Experience, employee ownership, quality and Made in Britain membership are valuable proof points, yet they are dispersed across the page instead of reinforcing the decisions buyers are making nearby.

5

Third-Party Content Dilutes the Next Step

The embedded social feed introduces a large set of external destinations and remotely loaded media, increasing distraction and fragility on a page that should guide buyers towards one useful project conversation.

Strategic Positioning

The wedge was clear:

Shift from a menu of electronics services to a visible production department from prototype to repeat manufacture.

Cope's strongest story is the continuity it can provide. A buyer can bring one project to a team that helps clarify the requirement, supports prototyping, verifies the assembly and manages production with controlled materials and inspection. The rebuild turns that joined-up working method into the organising idea.

The positioning was fixed before the visual treatment: customer progress first, individual capabilities second.

The Process

Ten steps, in the order they happened. This is the part worth showing: not a finished page appearing from nowhere, but the working method behind it, including where things broke and how they were put right.

01Select

Screened the Made in Britain Electronics category and selected Cope as the strongest evidence-led rebuild opportunity.

02Baseline

Recorded the live homepage's metadata, heading, image, link, schema and mobile foundations before any implementation work.

03Research

Verified Cope's services, process, quality controls, ownership and Made in Britain membership against first-party sources.

04Position

Defined the positioning wedge around a visible production department carrying work from prototype into repeat manufacture.

05Type Frame

Validated the audience, benefit, mechanism, proof, objections and same-page actions in a text-only homepage structure.

06Direction

Presented and refined the approved visual direction, keeping customer progress and the prototype-to-production route central.

07Build

Built the approved self-contained homepage with working section navigation, verified proof, responsive layouts and factual schema.

08Audit & Polish

Audited the implementation, then polished logo presentation, trust indicators, hover states, focus behaviour and responsive details.

09Compare

Repeated the matched SEO checks on the frozen artifact and separated implementation gains from production-only limitations.

10Package

Packaged the approved concept, matched evidence and portfolio case study without presenting the work as a live client launch.

Before & After

The Current Site

Cope Technology's current website
No H1 and a generic page title: the live homepage does not establish one primary search or buyer proposition.
No meta description, canonical link or JSON-LD in the rendered homepage.
Repeated carousel headings make several messages compete above the fold.
Capabilities appear as separate choices rather than one prototype-to-production route.
A third-party social feed adds distraction and many external destinations before the final contact action.

The Rebuild

The rebuilt Cope Technology homepage
One buyer-focused H1 defines Cope as a UK electronics manufacturing partner from prototype to production.
Descriptive metadata and valid JSON-LD make the business, services and FAQs explicit.
A four-stage process connects understanding, prototyping, verification and manufacture.
Quality, ownership and manufacturing proof sit beside the claims they support.
Twenty-three resolved same-page links keep the concept focused on one coherent buyer journey.
The rebuilt Cope Technology homepage on mobile

Built responsive from the start — the rebuild adapts cleanly from desktop down to mobile.

What Changed the Most

1

Lead With Customer Progress

The opening promise now tells product teams what moves forward: their electronics project, from first build into controlled repeat manufacture.

2

Turn Capability Into a Process

Assembly, prototyping, testing and production are no longer isolated services. They form a visible four-stage route with quality evidence at the points where buyers need reassurance.

3

Make Trust Operational

ISO 9001, automated inspection, the employee-owned team and the purpose-designed facility become practical reasons to trust delivery rather than disconnected badges.

What This Project Demonstrates

This concept shows how Marghella Marketing approaches a technical manufacturing rebuild: preserve the real capability, identify the buyer's decision sequence, and create a page where message, evidence and interaction all reinforce that sequence.

The result is not presented as a live client launch. It is a self-directed, publication-pending demonstration of how Cope Technology's existing strengths could be made clearer, more focused and easier to evaluate.

Why This Matters for Contract Manufacturers

A capable manufacturing partner can still lose attention when buyers must assemble the offer themselves. A clear project route, nearby proof and one practical next step make technical depth easier to recognise without inflating the claims.
